Calen
was able to attend lectures, readings and workshops by a number of
faculty members from Black Mountain College after it closed, and earned
an MFA in writing and poetics from Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado,
and a DMin degree from Wisdom University in San Francisco. Both universities
have carried on the progressive, contemplative tradition of Black
Mountain College in both course offerings and faculty. Calen is on the adjunct faculty of Wisdom University.
Calen
has been a “circuit-rider” for UU congregations since
1995, in the tradition of Ralph Waldo Emerson, and presented 23 worship
services to UU congregations in eight states in 2006. The Rev. Dr.
Rayne also provides spiritual care and counseling, labyrinth walks,
baptisms or child dedications, weddings and civil union ceremonies,
and memorial or funeral services. Other ceremonies include house and
office blessings, and rituals of transition.
